SAN ANTONIO β€” While most stockings are hung by the chimney with care, a few in San Antonio are cradling something even more precious β€” newborn babies. This all thanks to a decades-long tradition at Methodist Hospital. πŸŽ„πŸ‘Ά

For more than 61 years, the hospital has welcomed December newborns with handmade Christmas stockings and matching caps β€” a heartfelt tradition that began in 1964 with the Methodist Hospital Blue Bird Auxiliary.

Every summer, long before the first carol is sung, volunteers begin stitching more than 200 stockings and caps so each baby born in December goes home with a festive keepsake. Parents say those stockings often become cherished family heirlooms, with some passed down and saved for decades.

Hospital leaders say the tradition is about more than holiday dΓ©cor β€” it’s about compassion, connection, and celebrating life’s biggest moments in meaningful ways.

For families welcoming a newborn during the holidays, that tiny stocking is a reminder that sometimes the most magical gifts come wrapped in love. 🎁✨
