Our “Forgotten Friends” series showcases a dog or cat each week that has spent time at an area shelter, just waiting for someone to notice them and bring them home to love.

This week’s Forgotten Friend is Serena, a two-year-old German Shepherd found wandering in Comal County and brought to the Humane Society in New Braunfels (HSNBA). She was first brought to the shelter in October and has been waiting patiently for someone to love ever since. She was adopted out once since getting there, but that person brought her back after about a week because it just didn’t work out.

She gets along with other dogs but is not a fan of cats. The shelter does require a meet and greet if you have any other dogs, just to be sure they get along.

She loves going for walks and out on adventures.

“She takes a little bit to get used to new situations, but she enjoys adventures and has really gotten to be a pretty gentle, very intelligent dog,” said shelter staff.

She is smart and would love to have a human that keeps her engaged. She learns new things quickly.

She loves getting pets, loves treats, and is healthy and already spayed. Serena would love to have a big yard with plenty of room to run around and burn off energy.

You can submit your application for Serena right here: https://www.hsnba.org/adopt/adopt-a-dog/.

Or visit the Humane Society of the New Braunfels Area located at 3353 Morningside Drive in New Braunfels, call them at (830) 629-5287 or email them at GeneralInfo@HSNBA.org.

The fees to adopt are $120 for large dogs (like Serena), $200 for small/puppies, $100 for kittens, $50 for adult cats.

They are open:

  • Monday – Friday: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Saturdays: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Sundays and Holidays: Closed to the public

For whoever adopts Serena, Lucy’s Doggy Daycare & Spa will be lending a paw by offering them a free “Glow Up” Day at the Spa, which includes a massage therapy bath and Pawdicure. One of Lucy’s most cherished core values is to continue Lucy’s legacy of giving back to pups in need, as Lucy herself was a rescue!

Could you be the right person for this fabulous dog?

HSNBA always needs more folks to help out with the animals. Do you want to get involved? CLICK HERE for more information.

Would you like to help the animals at the shelter? You can order from their Amazon Wish List!

CLICK HERE to see what they need most. Two things they really need right now are potty pads and peanut butter! They use the peanut butter to stuff puzzle toys. It gives the dogs something fun to do while they are stuck inside due to the cold. Just make sure it doesn’t have xylitol in it which is toxic to dogs!

As with all shelters, cash is always appreciated, since money comes in handy to pay the veterinary bills associated with saving all the animals in need.

Remember when you adopt a shelter pet, you save two lives… the one you bring home with you and the one that now will be saved because the shelter has more room.
