SAN ANTONIO — Our “Forgotten Friends” series showcases a dog or cat each week that has spent a lengthy time at an area shelter, just waiting for someone to notice them and bring them home to love.
This week’s Forgotten Friend is Sugarplum, a roughly 3-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier mix who was found as a stray roaming around a San Antonio neighborhood and brought to the City of San Antonio Animal Care Services back in May. She quickly became a staff favorite and now gets to hang out with the creative team every day.
“Once her stray hold period was completed, she was moved into one of our administrative offices to open up her kennel for another pet in need and give her additional time to find a home,” said Kaitlan Helton, Education Specialist at City of San Antonio ACS.
“She is fiercely loved by everyone,” said shelter staff. She has a really cute prominent overbite and two different colored eyes, one blue and one brown.
“Her heterochromia (different colored eyes) really sets her apart from other pets,” said shelter staff.
Sugarplum would likely thrive as an only pet in your home because she tends to be a little selective about her furry friends.
That being said, she is not nearly as selective when it comes to people. “She is an affectionate girl who would likely do well with any type of human family,” said shelter staff.
She loves to cuddle, adores peanut butter and French fries, but will turn up her nose at apples.
“Sugarplum just wants to be a lap dog,” said shelter staff. “She will rub against people for affection and eagerly roll over for a belly rub.”
Sugarplum does have some allergies she is being treated for, but overall, is very healthy.
“She loves treats, is potty trained, is comfortable in her crate, and is just a charming, loving girl,” said shelter staff.
She is current on all of her vaccinations and parasite preventions, and will be spayed before you take her home.
