SAN ANTONIO — A former San Antonio teacher assistant is behind bars after she allegedly engaged in sexual contact with a student, according to an arrest affidavit.
Jail records show 27-year-old Priscilla Castro, an employee at KIPP University Prep High School just south of downtown, was arrested Friday after a 15-year-old student made an outcry to police about an alleged incident last school year.
According to police, the victim and her mother went to Public Safety Headquarters to provide a statement where the victim told police that Castro was overly affectionate towards her throughout the school year and made her feel uncomfortable.
The victim claimed that on the last day of school, May 23, she entered a classroom she thought she was supposed to be in, only to find Castro in the room. Castro told the girl she had “something to give her” and handed her a book, the affidavit states.
The 15-year-old alleged that Castro then asked if she could give her a hug. The victim told police she attempted to give her a side hug with one arm and Castro became frustrated, forcibly pulling the girl into a full hug.
The affidavit states the student told detectives that Castro began to fondle the girl’s breasts over her clothing for several seconds. Castro then allegedly pulled the girl’s face by her chin and asked “Could I give you a kiss?”
The victim claimed she was able to pull away and leave the classroom and did not originally disclose what happened because she didn’t want her mother to find out.
According to the arrest affidavit, Castro had been in continuing and ongoing contact with the victim, attempting to reach her from various blocked numbers.
Castro was made aware that the school administration was involved, according to the affidavit, and continued to attempt to make contact with the victim. Records state that Castro even contacted the girl while the teen was being interviewed by police, asking where she was located.
An arrest warrant was issued for Castro and she was taken into custody on Friday, records show.
She was booked into the Bexar County Jail and charged with indecency with a child sexual contact.
KIPP Texas Public Schools provided KENS 5 with the following statement regarding the incident.
“At KIPP Texas Public Schools the safety of our students is our top priority. As soon as we were notified of alleged sexual misconduct between a teacher formerly at KIPP UPrep and now at KIPP Aspire and a student at KIPP UPrep, we immediately conducted an internal investigation and alerted the student’s family and the San Antonio Police Department as well as other appropriate state agencies. After conducting our internal investigation, we terminated the teacher’s employment at KIPP Aspire. We will cooperate fully with the police investigation and work with the criminal justice system to seek the greatest consequences possible.”
