SAN ANTONIO — A case that had gone unsolved since 2022 has finally been cracked.
Nearly four years after two young men were found shot to death at a south-side apartment complex, San Antonio police have arrested 21-year-old Angie Morales on a charge of capital murder.
Police say the victims — 19-year-old Gregorio Ricardo Cordova-Mejia and 15-year-old Angel Ray Garcia — were found dead on July 29, 2022, at an apartment complex in the 1700 block of Pleasanton Road.
According to an arrest affidavit, detectives received information from a confidential source alleging Morales used Instagram to lure the victims to the complex, where they were allegedly set up to be robbed and killed.
Investigators say Morales denied knowing anything about the murders when questioned by detectives.
But police say digital evidence told a different story.
According to the affidavit, data recovered from Cordova-Mejia’s phone showed he communicated with Morales on Instagram just minutes before the shooting.
Investigators say Morales arranged a meeting and provided the apartment complex address and building number, but never gave an apartment number.
The affidavit also states Morales’ final message allegedly told Cordova-Mejia to “wait” because she was “stepping out” — sent just minutes before gunfire erupted and the first 911 call was made.
For the family of Angel Ray Garcia, the arrest brings a sense of relief after years of grief.
“This doesn’t bring my son back, but it’s a step closer to closure,” said Garcia’s mother, Jesica Martinez.
Martinez says her family continues to live with the pain of losing Angel Ray and hopes the arrest leads to justice.
“Our family lives with this pain, and we just want justice for my son,” she said.
Morales is currently facing one count of capital murder.
