SAN ANTONIO — A man is accused of killing his uncle and dumping his body in a recycling bin in a backyard on San Antonio’s east side, according to an arrest affidavit.
On Sunday, May 17, police were called to the 140 block of Sterling Street around 9:30 p.m. for a DOA.
According to documents, the caller, identified at 26-year-old Aquiminee La Roy Crawford, told dispatchers he shot and killed his uncle, 52-year-old Derrick Cornell Crawford, a week prior and the body was in the backyard. Upon arrival, police found a man’s body wrapped in black plastic bags inside a recycling bin in the backyard with multiple gunshot wounds. SAFD pronounced the man dead at the scene.
Investigators said Aquiminee was taken to headquarters for questioning where he told them on Saturday, May 9, he got a handgun from his bedroom and shot and killed his uncle inside the house. He also told them the handgun, a clear plastic bag full of spent shell casings and the victim’s phone could be found in his bedroom. A search warrant was signed for his residence and the evidence was found. Police said Aquiminee told investigators he was upset by a comment his uncle made, which lead to the shooting.
According to an arrest affidavit, a crime scene was located inside the home, including blood splatter along the walls and ceiling and a sofa cushion that was drenched in apparent blood.
Investigators said evidence found at the scene corroborates Aquiminee’s statements.
According to documents, Derrick’s mother told investigators they had been looking for her son since Sunday.
Aquiminee was booked in the Bexar County jail for abuse of a corpse. Police did not say if more charges are pending.
