AFFIDAVIT: Man accused of pointing gun at woman’s head, takes off in SA bus stop after confrontation about stolen money

Authorities said John Perez stole money from a woman’s purse at a north-side McDonald’s in November 2025 and then pulled a gun on her when he was confronted.

SAN ANTONIO — A 23-year-old man is accused of robbing a woman at gunpoint after allegedly taking money from her purse at a north side McDonald’s in November, according to an arrest warrant.

Investigators say John Joseph Perez was booked into the Bexar County Jail on a charge of aggravated robbery.

According to arrest records, the 24-year-old female victim told investigators she rode a bus with Perez to the McDonald’s on the 6900 block of San Pedro Avenue to get food. While inside, she claims she briefly fell asleep and later noticed Perez was gone and about $300 was missing from her purse.

The victim told investigators she found Perez at a nearby bus stop and confronted him about the missing money. Perez then allegedly pulled a handgun from his backpack, racked the slide and pointed it at her while telling her to leave and that he would keep the cash, according to the arrest affidavit.

Investigators said Perez then ran across the street and boarded a VIA bus to leave the area. Surveillance video obtained from a VIA bus showed him running away from the victim and getting on board, investigators said.

The victim described the suspect to police as a young man with a tattoo that said “Diana” above his right eyebrow. She later positively identified Perez in a photo lineup, according to investigators.

Crime Stoppers had also sought the public’s help in locating the suspect, offering a reward for information leading to his arrest.
