SAN ANTONIO — A man faces stalking charges, accused of sending dozens of “harassing and obsessive” messages to the wife of San Antonio Police Chief William McManus, according to an arrest affidavit.
Jail records show 29-year-old Roger Craig Vittitoe was arrested Saturday in Hidalgo County. He is accused of engaging in repeated and unwanted electronic communications with the victim, Lourdes McManus, in an attempt to speak with her husband.
Investigators said last week, Vittitoe contacted the victim more than 24 times over a 72-hour period, sending repeated voice and text messages that she claims were obsessive, harassing and alarming in nature.
Vittitoe, who had previously been identified in a separate criminal case, demanded a response from her husband and expressed anger and dissatisfaction over the outcome of the prior criminal case—according to the affidavit.
One message allegedly read: “I gave you your 15-day notice. A few more days left. Hope you make the right decision.”
Despite having no legitimate reason to contact the victim, Vittitoe allegedly continued to send messages over a three-day period, the affidavit states.
McManus told investigators the communications caused her to feel harassed, intimidated, alarmed and fearful for her safety and that of her family. She claims she never met the defendant and did not respond to any of his messages.
Vittitoe also allegedly sent the victim photographs with a geolocation indicating they were taken within 12 minutes of her home. Investigators said this added to her fear that the suspect may attempt to retaliate.
Investigators said the messages were sent from a phone number registered to Vittitoe and he reportedly identified himself in several of the communications to McManus. His identity was verified through law enforcement resources.
Vittitoe was jailed on two third-degree stalking charges. Jail officials say he was booked virtuallyshould be on the way back to Bexar County.
Information regarding bond has not yet been made available.
