Loop 1604 closures seem to have been plaguing San Antonio drivers, but finally there will be some relief. After a months-long construction project, two entrance ramps on Loop 1604 will finally open. Texas Department of Transportation reports the opening will impact drivers on the North Central part of San Antonio.
Starting on Wednesday, November 13, at 9 p.m. the westbound entrance ramp from Bitters Road to Loop 1604 will open to San Antonio commuters. Drivers from NW Military Highway will also be able to use a new eastbound entrance starting at 9 p.m. on Wednesday. The existing westbound Bitters Road entrance ramp and the eastbound NW Military Highway entrance ramp will close.
“Beginning Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2024 at 9 p.m., traffic traveling in this area will use the new, permanent ramps to enter either the Loop 1604 WB or EB mainlanes,” TxDOT said.
The opening comes more than a week after TxDOT crews opened a new bridge on Loop 1604 at Blanco Road. Drivers were shifted to the newly constructed bridge that is west of the existing Blanco Road bridge. The traffic shift allows crews to continue work on improvements for Blanco Road. Both construction projects are part of TxDOT’s ambitious $1.4 billion expansion and overhaul of a crucial 23-mile segment of Loop 1604.
