Alamo opens new Welcome Center to enhance visitor experience in downtown San Antonio

Alamo officials say the centralized location, designed to streamline ticketing, will benefit the site’s 1.6 million annual visitors.

SAN ANTONIO — The Alamo has opened a new indoor Welcome Center designed to streamline ticketing and improve the visitor experience ahead of the busy holiday and Alamo Bowl season, according to Alamo Trust, Inc.

The Welcome Center sits inside the former ice cream shop on the northwest corner of the historic Menger Hotel. The indoor facility replaces the long-standing red ticketing shed on Alamo Plaza and offers a single location for purchasing tickets, booking tours, buying convenience items and more.

Alamo officials say the centralized location will benefit the site’s 1.6 million annual visitors, especially those entering from the southern end of downtown. The storefront opens directly onto the Plaza de Valero, where daily performances and musket-firing demonstrations take place.

“This is one more step toward creating a seamless Alamo experience,” Hope Andrade, president and CEO of Alamo Trust, Inc., said in a statement. “The vast majority of our guests purchase tickets in person. A state-of-the-art, indoor Welcome Center will help them better understand the tours and experiences the Alamo has to offer so they can customize their visit according to their time and interests.”

A second Welcome Center is scheduled to open next spring along the future Paseo del Alamo, which will connect the River Walk to the Alamo.

Visitors can also continue to purchase tours and tickets online.
