SAN ANTONIO — It is a controlled chaos that is happening inside the Alamodome. The San Antonio stadium is gearing up to host the Final Four in two weeks.
Right now, it is in transformation mode to house 65,000 fans. Alamodome Marketing Manager Victor Caballero said gearing up for the big day has been happening for years.
“I think today is the calm before the storm,” he said. “We are all taking a deep breath, we are putting some final touches.”
He said constant monthly meetings started last January.
“Not only logistics around the Alamodome, but logistics around the city,” he said. “The Alamodome is going to look the best it has looked since it opened,” he said. “The different teams have been working around the clock to scrub every corner, and to paint.”
Caballero also showed KENS5 the new 18 suites located in the south zone, which were not there before.
“I think there were some soccer games where they would make some makeshift suites with pipe and drape,” he said. “But now it is real suites with walls, and beautiful marble countertops.”
Caballero said there are now 70 all around the venue, and added the 52 suites already there also got a facelift. He said the suites aren’t the only thing, that’s new. In the third level of the Alamodome, there’s also a noticeable difference in the concourse.
“The upper level, I think looks completely different,” he said.
Before it was very dark, now there is new paint, flooring, and lighting which makes the space a lot brighter.
“We really want to put our best foot forward when we welcome these fans, Caballero said. “We want to represent our city very well.”
