Alex Bregman’s game day pit stop was pure Texas comfort food

Before his first game back in Houston, Alex Bregman made a stop for his go-to Texas comfort food — and fans loved it.

HOUSTON — Alex Bregman’s first trip back to Houston as a member of the Boston Red Sox came with plenty of emotions — and one very Texas tradition.

Before the cheers, boos, and big swings at Daikin Park, Bregman made a pit stop for Whataburger. His order? A No. 3 with a large Dr Pepper and no tomato.

The longtime Astros third baseman, who spent his first nine seasons in Houston, returned Monday for the first time since signing with Boston in February. He was honored with a pregame video celebrating his championships, All-Star nods, and unforgettable moments in an Astros uniform.

“Really cool,” Bregman said. “Great moment, just tried to soak it all in. (Red Sox manager Alex Cora) told me to enjoy it, and I really tried to. It was a special moment.”

Fans gave him a standing ovation before his first at-bat — though the cheers quickly turned to playful boos after he launched a two-run homer in the first inning.

Bregman’s return was made even more notable by the presence of another familiar face: Carlos Correa. Traded back to the Astros from the Minnesota Twins at the deadline, Correa also received a warm welcome, sharing hugs with teammates, security staff, and fans.

While the Red Sox and Astros battled in a tight 7–6 Houston win, the night was about more than the scoreboard. For Bregman, it was a chance to reconnect with the city, the fans, and yes — his go-to burger order.
