LOS ANGELES — Alijah Arenas, a five-star prospect and USC commit, is in a coma after a car crash, according to ESPN

Arenas, 18, is the son of former NBA star Gilbert Arenas and is described as “one of the most highly touted recruits in this year’s college basketball recruiting class,” by Sports Illustrated

The Los Angeles Fire Department told ESPN they responded to a car crash around 5 a.m. local time. They said the 18-year-old driver of the Tesla Cybertruck was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

It’s unclear what caused the crash, but fire officials told ESPN the car crashed into a tree and fire hydrant and caught fire. ESPN says Arenas didn’t suffer any broken bones, but was put into an induced coma.

No further information is available at this time and it’s unclear the extent of Arenas’ injuries.

He is the No. 13-ranked recruit in the Class of 2025.
