COMAL COUNTY, Texas — Several campuses in Comal ISD were placed on a “secure” status Thursday morning as a precaution, while additional law enforcement was present at Canyon High School.
District officials say Canyon High School had an increased police presence, but emphasized there is no threat to students or staff. The secure status was lifted by 1:30 p.m.
The process impacted campuses in the Canyon Lake High School feeder pattern, including Rebecca Creek Elementary, Startzville Elementary, Mountain Valley Elementary, Mountain Valley Middle School and Canyon Lake High School.
Under a secure status, students and staff remained inside buildings, all exterior doors are locked and no visitors are allowed on campus, the district said. Student dismissal was also temporarily restricted.
Officials said early in the afternoon that all students and staff were safe and continuing their day as normal inside. The district reiterated that there is no emergency and that the measures were taken out of an abundance of caution.
