All-Stros! Three Houston Astros hold the top spots on the All-Star ballot

The Astros have been hot lately after a rocky start. Even though they’re still 2 games below .500, 3 ‘Stros stars lead their positions in the All-Star vote.

HOUSTON — If you want to see your favorite Astros in the 2024 All-Star Game next month, you only have a couple of days left to vote!

MLB just released a new ballot update and three Astros still hold the top spot for their positions. 2B Jose Altuve, DH Yordan Alvarez and OF Kyle Tucker also led the field in the first All-Star ballot update.

Players who rank in the top two of their position — or top six for outfielders — will advance to Phase 2 of voting. The leading vote-getter in each league during Phase 1 will receive an automatic spot in their team’s starting lineup.

Fans can vote up to five times a day but Phase 1 voting ends on Thursday, June 27. Phase 2 voting begins on Sunday, June 30.

The Astros got off to a rough start in a season plagued by injuries and inconsistency, but they’ve been hot lately, winning five straight games and eight of their last 11. Altuve, Alvarez and Tucker are part of the reason why.

Jose Altuve

As of June 24, Altuve is hitting .299 with 12 HR, 33 RBIs and an OPS (on-base plus slugging) of .810. He also has 10 stolen bases.

The 34-year-old veteran has not made an error in 74 games and 255 total chances at 2nd base this season, according to the Astros. No other everyday second baseman in the American League can match that. Altuve has the all-time franchise record for 2nd base with an 88-game errorless streak from Aug. 17, 2013-May 27, 2014.

It would be his ninth All-Star selection.

Yordan Alvarez

The big man with the big guns has a .288 AVG with 16 HR, 41 RBIs and an OPS of .877.

Kyle Tucker

Tucker is hitting .266 with 19 HR, 40 RBIs and an OPS of .979.

The Astros are also trying to make a case for 3B Alex Bregman, SS Jeremy Peña and C Yanier Diaz who played key roles in the sweep of the Baltimore Orioles. But they have a lot of ground to make up by Thursday with Bregman and Peña in the sixth spot on the ballot and Diaz at fifth as of Monday.

The 2024 All-Star Game will be played on July 16 at Globe Life Field in Arlington.
