Victor Wembanyama’s imminent contract extension with the San Antonio Spurs is likely to be massive.
SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio Spurs‘ Victor Wembanyama will have a new deal, and if it is anything like ESPN’s Bobby Marks projects, it will be a whopper.
Marks recently shared his summer projections and mentioned how the Spurs and Wemby could be looking at a contract extension.
The projected range for a contract extension is $252 to $303.3 million, depending on whether Wemby meets certain goals.
From Marks:
On or after July 6, San Antonio and its franchise star will agree to a projected five-year, $252 million maximum extension. The contract will include All-NBA, Defensive Player of the Year and MVP language, which could increase the deal to $303.3 million if he reaches the criteria in 2026-27. Because Wembanyama was ineligible for league honors in 2024-25, he is not eligible for 30% of the salary cap in Year 1 of the extension — even if the criteria are reached this season.
Certainly, the Spurs center deserves that amount. On the court, he brings television attention to San Antonio, is globally known, sells tickets both at home and on the road, ranks among the best in player merchandise sales, and his stats speak for themselves.
As a ripple effect, expect ticket prices for the game to increase in the coming seasons, but it might be well spent to watch Wemby deliver on the court.
RON HARPER RIPS A PACK OF CARDS AND GETS HIS SON’S CARD
Guard Dylan Harper’s dad, Ron Harper, was recently on the hunt for his son’s trading card.
Once Ron got past seeing his son grace the box cover of a Topps box as well as on the individual packets, Ron started ripping packs until he landed Dylan’s card in the last pack, much to his surprise.
