‘An immense loss’: Phoenix Fire announces death of firefighter

The Phoenix Fire Department recently announced the death of Captain Paramedic Anthony Mock.

PHOENIX — The Phoenix Fire Department has announced the death of one of its own.

Captain Paramedic Anthony Mock has died after he was diagnosed with two rare forms of cancer a couple of years ago, the agency said on Wednesday.

“Since his diagnosis, Anthony became an outspoken advocate for early cancer screenings, urging his fellow firefighters to prioritize their health to prevent others from enduring the same tragedy,” the fire department wrote in a statement.

Becoming a Phoenix firefighter was apparently a lifelong dream for Mock, the fire department said, and Mock served the agency with professionalism and heart.

“Anthony’s passing is an immense loss to our department and the community he served so selflessly,” the agency wrote.

Details about a memorial service will be announced at a later time.
