Annual ‘Thru the Chute Cardboard Race’ is Saturday in New Braunfels

Competitors launch their handmade boats made out of cardboard through the chute while spectators cheer them on!

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas — Do you think you can build a boat out of cardboard that will hold you and some friends while you attempt to race through the chute on the Comal River in New Braunfels?

Well grab your duct tape! The Annual “Thru the Chute” cardboard boat race is this weekend.

In this race, competitors will launch their handmade boats through the City Tube Chute, while spectators cheer them on! And watch their triumphs and failures.

The race this year is on Saturday, April 26, with the boat check-in from 7:30 – 9 a.m. and the first launch at 10 a.m

And it’s FREE to watch! They even have free parking available at Prince Solms Park and at other nearby public lots, including the ones on Elizabeth Avenue and Hinman Island Drive. They ask that you please park in designated public areas and avoid parking on private property.

Use their interactive parking map to find places to park in New Braunfels.

Remember that the City Tube Chute is a river park, and the non-disposable container ordinance will still be in effect. Alcohol is also not allowed on the river banks.

It’s too late to register for this year if you want to make one, but you still don’t want to miss out on the fun!
