Another close call at an Arizona airport

According to the FAA, a Southwest Airlines flight approaching Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and got too close to an American Airlines flight on Feb. 23.

PHOENIX — Another near-miss between two commercial flights was reported at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, according to the Federal Aviation Association.

On Sunday, Feb. 23, air traffic control told Southwest Airlines Flight 3606 to turn left when the plane was approaching Sky Harbor. The crew did not respond, the FAA said.

The Southwest flight then got “too close” to American Airlines Flight 2079, another plane approaching the airport.

Air traffic control gave the American crew corrective instructions and told them about the flight path of the Southwest flight, FAA said.

The two planes missed each other.

The FAA did not tell 12News why the Southwest flight crew didn’t respond or what happened after the near-miss.
