
One of them is that registered San Antonio voters must have lived in the city one year before completing the application.
Over a dozen candidates have already announced they’re running for mayor. Its the first time this seat is opening with Mayor Ron Nirenberg finishing his eight-year term.
Voters in the November election voted for city council members and the mayor to have a pay raise.
And starting in May, council members can serve four two year terms meaning they don’t have to run for re-election every two years.
City council member salaries will go from $45,000 to nearly $70,000.
The mayor’s salary is going from $58,000 to nearly $89,000.
Applicants do have several guidelines to meet and some forms they have to submit if they want to get on the general election ballot in May.
Registered San Antonio voters must have lived in the city one year before completing the application.
This includes six months within your council district.
You’ll have to bring two documents like your license, a utility bill, or most recent paycheck to verify your residency.
You can’t have a felony conviction or be deemed as mentally incapacitated by a court.
For forms, you have to complete the candidate checklist, campaign treasurer appointment form, paperwork for a campaign finance account, and an application for a place on the ballot.
The only form that is voluntary, but encouraged to complete, is the code for fair campaign practices.
It costs $110 to be on the general election ballot.
You can also submit a petition with the required number of community signatures to waive the fee.
The last day you can register in person or by mail is February 14.
The City Clerks office will be open an extra hour on Wednesday, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
