Approval ratings for Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones low in first city poll since she took office

Five months later after getting elected, the UTSA poll shows only about 25% of voters somewhat approve or strongly approve of Jones’ job performance.

SAN ANTONIO — A new poll of UT San Antonio’s Center for Public Opinion Research shows that support for Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones is low about five months after she was elected.

Mayor Jones defeated Rolando Pablos in the city election back in May by a margin of 54% to 46%. Five months later, the UTSA poll shows only about 25% of voters somewhat approve or strongly approve of Jones’ job performance, with 47% who neither approve nor disapprove of her job performance.

The poll also asked about approval for Bexar County Judge Peter Sakai. About 36% of people surveyed said they somewhat approved or strongly approved of his job performance.

The poll also asked San Antonio residents to say how they feel about Gov. Abbott and President Trump. 29% of respondents said they somewhat approved or strongly approved of Gov. Abbott’s job performance. Also, 28% of respondents said they somewhat approved or strongly approved of President Trump’s job performance.

Also part of the polling was a survey of how people in San Antonio feel about two propositions on the November ballot related to Project Marvel. The numbers showed there is still lukewarm support for the project. You can see a breakdown of those numbers here.
