Armed man makes threats, barricades himself inside home before being arrested, New Braunfels PD says

Mark Joseph Freaney, 33, faced arrest after a standoff with SWAT in New Braunfels.

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas — A man was arrested after making threats and then barricading himself inside a New Braunfels home for several hours Friday morning, according to a press release.

Mark Joseph Freaney, 33, is being charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, which is a 2nd degree felony.

New Braunfels police were called to the 800 block of Porter Street around 8:30 a.m. for reports of an armed man making threats.

Upon arrival, officers tried to communicate with Freaney before he went inside the home and refused to cooperate with law enforcement, officials said.

According to the press release, authorities determined a criminal offense had taken place and obtained arrest warrants. They also discovered no one else was inside the home at the time of the incident.

Authorities said after nearly four hours, the New Braunfels PD negotiated with Freaney. The SWAT team then entered the home around 12:30p.m., and placed Freaney under arrest without further incident. No injuries were reported.

He will be transported to the Comal County Jail.

Investigators remain on scene and the public is asked to avoid the area until it’s cleared. Authorities believe this was an isolated incident and there are no additional threats to the community.

The New Braunfels Police Department Command Center, the NBPD Crisis Negotiations Team, and the NBPD SWAT Team responded to the incident.
