Hundreds gathered to honor the victim’s life in Floresville

On Sunday night, hundreds gathered outside The Town Barbershop in Floresville in honor of Octavian “Tave” Estrada. The beloved barber was known a bright light in the community.

Some of his customers travel from as far as West Texas to get their hair cut in the small town.

Ryan Estrada and Carolena Estrada helped plan the vigil for their uncle outside the barbershop.

“He was young, healthy… Never in our minds did we think this situation would happen to our family,” Carolena said.

The two were not surprised by the turnout. They said Tave had helped mentor and inspire many people throughout his time as a barber.

“He’s impacted so many generations,” Carolena said.

He was known to give a helping hand to those who needed it. Many people spoke at the vigil, including a single mother who said he had given her kids free haircuts.

“He was the person who would go and cut hair at resident homes,” Carolena said. “The person who if a loved one passed away, he’d go cut their hair.”

Tave left behind a wife and several siblings. His niece and nephew said right now they are focused on remembering their loved one as investigators work to solve the case.

“It’s very heartwarming to see all these people gathered here today,” Ryan said.
