Sánchez grabbed two different would-be home runs in nearly the same spot in right field.
It’s rare to see an outfielder rob a hitter of a home run, but Astros right fielder Jesús Sánchez did it Sunday…twice!
For Houston, Sánchez’s two big plays in right field were the only two things the home fans got to cheer about at Daikin Park, as the Orioles routed the Astros, 12-0.
The first homer taken away by Sánchez would have been a third-inning grand slam. At the time, the game was scoreless, and the Orioles had the bases loaded with Gunnar Henderson at the plate. Henderson lifted a Cristian Javier offering deep to right field and would have been in the stands had Sánchez not leaped and brought the ball back
Baltimore still got a run on the play with the sacrifice fly.
The next one came in the top of the seventh inning with two Orioles on base and Baltimore’s Samuel Basallo batting. Basallo drove a pitch from Kaleb Ort to about the same spot Henderson did earlier in the game. And just like earlier, Sánchez robbed him.
