The Spurs Jackals organized the event at the Rock at La Cantera, and even made personalized bracelets for San Antonio players.
SAN ANTONIO — One had beads spelling out, “Por Vida.”
Another spelled “Texas.” Still another had De’Aaron Fox’s name and “4,” his jersey number.
But the brightest of Raylyn Boyson’s eight Spurs-themed friendship bracelets she had on Friday evening at the Rock at La Cantera? That one had an extraterrestrial-green glow and featured an alien, a tribute to Victor Wembanyama.
Boyson and a group of dozens of other Spurs fans – including members of the Jackals, the team’s passionate supporter section formed this season – gathered at the Rock with an assortment of thousands of beads of all colors and shapes which would be woven into “friendship bracelets.” They were partially a personalized fashion statement, partially a sign of support for San Antonio’s favorite team as they approach their first playoffs since 2019.
“I would love to see all ages and genders passing out these bracelets, trading them, being like, ‘I like what you put on that bracelet.’ Let’s make some connections, let’s have some fun,” said Boyson, herself a member of the Jackals who came up with the idea for the bracelet-making party, inspired by the tradition created by Taylor Swift fans.
The idea is that they would make thousands of colorful bracelets to pass out to fans at the team’s first playoff game, as well as some for Spurs players themselves and their family members.

“Typically, when we’re in the arena, we go to our seats and we just sit there and cheer in our seats,” Boyson said. “But it would be nice to walk around and get to know the people around us, just find a good community.”
San Antonio is in the midst of a remarkable turnaround season. Entering the weekend, they are 59-18 and No. 2 in the Western Conference, with a chance to catch the Oklahoma City Thunder for the top seed.
They have a chance to win their 60th game Saturday against the Denver Nuggets; a victory would also give them a season-high 12th straight win.
Oh, and Wembanyama is making the MVP race interesting.
“We’ve been practicing our whole life,” one fan said Friday about how what she anticipates the atmosphere will be in San Antonio once the playoffs arrive. “(Just) an absolute massive party.”
“We’re banking on meeting OKC in the Western Conference Finals and taking that series,” another fan said.
Alex Pena, a “pack leader” with the Jackals, said its things like the friendship-bracelet-making party – an opportunity to bring Spurs fans together – that shows why the supporter section does things different.
“Playoffs are why we’re doing this,” Pena said. “We’re trying to build a community for all Spurs fans—just for all of us to get together, be united, bring the energy for all Spurs.”
“I’ve got chills thinking about it.”
