DALLAS — Crews found at least 10 cars in Lake Cliff in the Oak Cliff neighborhood of Dallas on Thursday, and it’s believed some of the vehicles may have connections to missing persons cases, sources tell WFAA.
Sources tell WFAA that the vehicles were found as part of routine cleaning, which hasn’t been done at Lake Cliff in about 10 years.
WFAA chopper footage of the scene Thursday showed crews gathered around an older vehicle on a trailer that appeared to have been pulled from Lake Cliff off Colorado Boulevard, and crews searching in the water.
As of about 5 p.m. Thursday, crews had recovered four vehicles from the water, police say, and the rest will be removed in the coming days. Dallas’ new police chief was on the scene of the recovery and said the cleanings are part of a new initiative to potentially solve crimes.
“We’re starting a new operation, Diving to a Cleaner Dallas,” Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux said. “We’re going to do our very best to pull out as many of them as we can today, and we’re going to continue on until we get all the cars out of the lake and hopefully it leads to us solving some unsolved crimes.”
After all the vehicles are pulled out of the water, officials will investigate them, police said.
When asked if DPD had gotten a hit on any of the cars that had been pulled, Chief Comeaux responded: “At this point, we don’t know, but we will do a full investigation and see if they’re connected to any crimes or just stolen cars or just someone trying to get rid of a car.”
