Roger Arteaga Gonzalez was convicted of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for the December 2023 attack. Investigators say Gonzalez and the victim were driving together near Poteet when he suddenly began stabbing her with a knife.
Authorities say he abandoned her in a rural area. The woman later regained consciousness and managed to crawl toward a roadway, where passing drivers spotted her and called 911. She survived, fought through her injuries and later testified in court about both the attack and her recovery.
Prosecutors also noted Gonzalez’ criminal history, which includes being a convicted felon out of California with prior weapons and drug charges.
