Atascosa County officials: 4 houses destroyed in ongoing fire

Authorities said the fire near the Atascosa-Bexar county line was 75% contained as of 3:30 p.m.

SAN ANTONIO — A fire that’s scorched part of northern Atascosa County has destroyed four homes, local officials said. As of 3:30 p.m., the fire was about 75% contained.

The flames sparked around 1:30 p.m. in the 100 block of Way Cross, near the Atascosa-Bexar line, according to Atascosa County Judge Weldon Cude. About five acres have burned so far.

It’s unclear at this point how the fire started. No injuries have been reported.

Several agencies are involved in the response, including personnel from Pleasanton, Bexar County, Jourdanton, San Antonio and Leming. The public was asked to avoid Way Cross while firefighters continue containment efforts.

“As a precaution, all students who reside in the affected areas are being held at their respective schools,” Cude said, including children who live on Spur Ridge, Old Pleasanton Road, Hickory, Way Cross and Camelot.

This is a developing story.
