AUSTIN, Texas — Attorneys say Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) mishandled the deportation of an Austin mom and her kids.
According to nonprofit group Grassroots Leadership, ICE detained Denisse Parra Vargas and her family after a traffic stop in North Austin last Thursday.
Parra Vargas and her three children were transferred to Laredo and then deported to Mexico a few days later.
Attorneys say the kids are ages 9, 5 and 4, and two of them are U.S. citizens.
According to immigration attorneys, ICE was informed by the family and legal advocates that the children were U.S. citizens and ICE knowingly deported them anyway.
“These actions are clearly illegal and we should all be concerned that ICE continues to detain and deport U.S. citizen children and begs the question of who is safe from their constant and ever-evolving disregard for the law,” said Cori Hash, a senior staff attorney for the Immigrant Legal Resource Center.
Hash said ICE did not allow for communication with close-by family members who were will to keep the children.
KVUE has reached out to ICE and we are awaiting a response.
