AUSTIN, Texas — Visitors to one East Austin bar might have been surprised to see the person serving their drinks Wednesday night.
Following an advanced screening of his new film, “Caught Stealing,” Golden Globe winner Austin Butler hopped behind the bar at Dirty Bill’s on Rio Grande Street.
Austin-based Fons PR shared video of Butler’s brief bartending gig on social media. The company’s clients include Alamo Drafthouse, where the advanced screening was held, and both Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures, two studios in involved with the film.
Even before heading to Dirty Bill’s, Butler got up close and personal with fans at Alamo Drafthouse – South Lamar, alongside “Caught Stealing” director Darren Aronofsky and Austin icon Matthew McConaughey.
“Caught Stealing” is based off the novel by Charlie Huston, who wrote the film’s screenplay. It follows a former high school baseball player, played by Butler, who finds himself caught up in the criminal underworld of 1990s New York City.
Butler got his start on television before gaining wider recognition with his appearance in Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood” and his starring role in Baz Luhrmann’s “Elvis,” for which he won a Golden Globe and a BAFTA Award and was nominated for an Oscar.
Aronofsky has been nominated for multiple awards across his multi-decade career and is known for his films “Requiem for a Dream” and “Black Swan,” among others.
