Austin Metcalf’s father targeted by swatting call Thursday, Frisco police confirm

Jeff Metcalf, the father of 17-year-old stabbing victim Austin Metcalf, was targeted by a swatting call, police confirmed.

FRISCO, Texas — A home connected to the family whose 17-year-old son, Austin Metcalf, was fatally stabbed at a Frisco track meet was swatted Thursday evening.

Frisco PD said that officers responded to a gunshot call at an address, which turned out to be the home of Jeff Metcalf, Austin Metcalf’s father, WFAA confirmed. Metcalf told WFAA nobody was home at the time, but he arrived five minutes later.

Swatting is a term used when fake threats are called into authorities with the expressed purpose of drumming up a large police response.

Police also confirmed to WFAA that the home of Meghan Metcalf, Austin Metcalf’s mother, was swatted on the night of April 8.

The news comes after Metcalf showed up to a press conference hosted by the parents of Karmelo Anthony, the teen accused of stabbing Metcalf’s son. The press conference was delayed by 50 minutes as a result, and police escorted Metcalf out of the building without incident.

At that press conference, Anthony’s mother said her family has been the target of harassment, threats and lies.

Anthony was released from jail Monday after posting bond. Judge Angela Tucker earlier in the day decided to significantly reduce Anthony’s bond amount from $1 million to $250,000.

This is a developing story. This article will be updated as we learn more.
