AUTHORITIES: Man living in country illegally arrested in East Texas for child sexual assault

Jose Garcia Rivera was arrested and booked into the Titus County Jail where he awaits arraignment.

TITUS COUNTY, Texas — The Titus County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man for alleged child sex abuse.

According to the TCSO, on Friday evening, deputies were told about the sexual assault of a child by a man who was reportedly in the country illegally. They were informed the man, identified as Jose Garcia Rivera, 37, was likely a flight risk.

“Investigators moved quickly to follow up on the allegation,” the TCSO said,

They were able to get a search warrant for Rivera and went to his home to take him into custody.

“With the arrest warrant in hand, deputies searched Garcia’s residence and initially were unable to find him,” the TCSO said. “Ultimately, Investigator Rendy Barrett saw part of Garcia’s foot protruding from a pile of scrap lumber where he was hiding under a sheet of plywood.”

Garcia was arrested and booked into the Titus County Jail where he awaits arraignment.
