‘Baby Hope Medina’ | Woman arrested 19 years after her newborn baby was found on the side of the road

According to the Hondo Anvil Herald, a local landowner found the body of a newborn baby girl near a fence along County Road 448 in Medina County.

MEDINA COUNTY, Texas — A woman is arrested for the murder of her infant daughter more than 19 years after the remains of the newborn baby were discovered.

Maricela V. Frausto, 44, is now facing charges of Capital Murder.

According to the Hondo Anvil Herald, a local landowner found the body of a newborn baby girl near a fence along County Road 448 outside the city of Hondo in Medina County in September of 2004.

Medina County Sheriff Randy Brown sent a statement after the arrest.

Brown says the baby was named “Baby Hope Medina,” with the hope and a prayer that law enforcement would find who was responsible for the crime.

Many people have worked diligently over the years to find who was responsible for dumping the little girl on the side of the road, Brown says.

“The day this sweet little perfect baby girl was discovered , she was etched in the hearts and minds of all the Officers involved and soon after the community,” Brown said.

Brown says Frausto is the biological mother of the baby. Her bond has been set at $1 million with an added condition of GPS monitoring.

“A promise was made that day to never forget and to never give up…Today, 19 years, 2 months and 1 day later, the promise made that day, is complete,” Brown said.

In September, the MCSO held a memorial service to commemorate the 19th anniversary of “Baby Hope Medina’s,” discovery.

This is a developing story.
