Ballet San Antonio donating tickets to employees impacted by government shutdown

The ballet company will donate 1,000 tickets to federal employees, or 250 per performance, for their season opener of “Giselle.”

SAN ANTONIO — Ballet San Antonio will donate 1,000 tickets to its upcoming production of Giselle to federal employees affected by the ongoing government shutdown, the company announced Friday.

The professional ballet company will give away 250 complimentary tickets per performance for its season opener Oct. 17-19 at the H-E-B Performance Hall inside the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts.

The federal government entered its second day of shutdown Friday, pausing work for “non-essential” employees while requiring essential workers, including military personnel, to continue without pay until funding is restored. The closure hits San Antonio particularly hard, with the city home to more than 80,000 active-duty service members and thousands of other government employees.

“The arts are all about bringing together the community, inviting us to look at the world from a new perspective,” Ballet San Antonio CEO Evin Eubanks said in a statement. “The complimentary tickets are a small way to give back to the employees tasked with keeping our government running and community safe.”

“Giselle” will be performed on the following dates.

  • Friday, Oct 17 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, Oct 18  at 2:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, Oct 18 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Sunday, Oct 119 at 2:00 p.m.

Federal employees can obtain their tickets by visiting THIS link and entering the promo code BSA4SA. The tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Additionally, tickets are on sale now and may be purchased online at tobincenter.org, by phone at (210) 223-8624, or in person at the Tobin Center Box Office (100 Auditorium Circle). Box Office hours are Monday–Friday, 10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m., and Saturday, 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

Ballet San Antonio, founded to promote dance and accessibility in the region, also offers community outreach programs such as free classes for underserved youth and initiatives that bring children to live performances.
