AUSTIN, Texas — A Texas-sized benefit concert raised millions of dollars for those impacted by the deadly Central Texas floods that left more than 100 people dead last month.
On Sunday, “Band Together Texas” collected more than $8.5 million for The Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country and the Central Texas Community Foundation.
Held at Austin’s Moody Center, the event featured Grammy-winning country singer Miranda Lambert and singer-songwriter Parker McCollum. Other performers included Austinite Dylan Gossett, Jack Ingram, Jason Aldean, Cody Johnson and more.
The night kicked off with a speech from Texas-born actor Matthew McConaughey, who honored the flood survivors.
“…we must remember, for the families who suffered, they are just beginning the lengthy journey to rebuild their lives,” he told the crowd.
Lambert and McCollum then hit the stage for the first performance of the evening, playing “True” by country icon George Straight.
While musicians weren’t on stage, additional well-known personalities like actor Dennis Quaid, former MLB pitcher Roger Clemons and businesswoman Kendra Scott spoke on the deadly Central Texas flooding.
During the evening, a 19-year-old Camp Mystic counselor named Ainslie Bashara was also honored on stage after helping save 16 people in the Kerr County floods along the Guadalupe River.
While the concert happened in-person, viewers were also able to watch online through a livestream on various platforms.
