Bandera County sends warning about fake texts, calls trying to get money from residents

Officials say several citizens have reported receiving either a call or text claiming they have missed jury duty or other minor offenses to get people’s money.

BANDERA COUNTY, Texas — The Bandera County Sheriff’s Office sent out a “scam alert” after reports of citizens receiving calls and texts saying they missed jury duty or didn’t pay a fine in order to get money from them.

On Friday, Bandera officials say the calls or texts have directed victims to a location where they can pay a large sum of money.

Authorities are urging residents to not comply with these demands as they say the Bandera County Sheriff’s Office will not contact an individual over the phone or text to handle criminal charges. Nor will they request a payment over the phone.

Officials say to hang up immediately and report the number to sheriff@banderacounty.org.

“These numbers are most likely fake with the caller residing out of the country but we will send the caller information to federal authorities,” BCSO says.
