Basketball Hall of Famer calls Spurs’ Wembanyama the ‘most gifted’ player in the NBA today

There’s a reason why Wemby is referred to as an “alien.” He has an out-of-this-world skillset.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama has the physical tools any NBA team would want to build their franchise around.

The height, basketball IQ, wingspan, speed, ability to dominate both ends of the court, and an instinct for basketball.

And according to Basketball Hall of Famer Paul Pierce, Wemby’s uniqueness makes him the most gifted player in the NBA today.

“Who’s the most gifted today? It’s Victor Wembanyama,” Pierce said on Fox Sports’ Undisputed. “We’ve never seen anything like that. When I say the physical traits with the skills, there’s nothing we’ve ever seen like this, right.”

“Nobody has these physical attributes like Wembanyama. We just never seen anything like this,” Pierce added.

Indeed, Wembanyama is a rare player, and why he is referred to as an “alien” because of the out-of-this-world skillset he showed in his rookie season,

The 2024 NBA Rookie of the Year winner led all rookies in points (21.4), rebounds (10.6) and blocks (3.6) per game, in addition to ranking fourth in assists (3.9) and second in steals (1.2) per game. He is the second rookie to lead all NBA players in blocks per game in a season.

Wembanyama also became the first player to average at least 20.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 3.0 blocks in fewer than 30 minutes per game in a season.

And if that is not enough, he is also the first player to have at least 1,500 points, 700 rebounds, 250 assists, 250 blocks, and 100 3-pointers made in a season.

Wemby is undoubtedly gifted and likely will be a player who won’t be duplicated on the court. He’s also skilled, which bodes well for the Spurs’ rebuild, knowing the franchise player is set and the future is bright in San Antonio.
