A Baytown family found their furry best friend, Ace, fatally shot in their backyard on Monday.
BAYTOWN, Texas — The quiet of a Baytown neighborhood was shattered Monday evening when a family’s beloved dog was shot and killed in what authorities are calling a heartbreaking case of animal cruelty.
The Chambers County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called to Cotton Lane Road in the Plantation neighborhood, which is where they found a 6-year-old yellow Labrador named Ace lying dead in the backyard of his home. Investigators believe Ace was shot around 5 p.m. A nearby resident reported hearing a gunshot about that time.
For the family, Ace was more than a pet. He was part of the household, a loyal companion who never left the yard. Now, deputies are hoping someone in the area may have seen or heard something that could help bring answers.
Authorities are asking neighbors to review any security camera or doorbell footage from roughly 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, especially anything that shows unusual activity along Cotton Lane Road.
Anyone with information is urged to call the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency line at (409) 267-2500. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office App.
Those who prefer can contact Chambers County Crime Stoppers at (844) 860-8477 for a chance at a cash reward.
Deputies say even the smallest detail could make a difference as they work to find who is responsible for Ace’s death — and to give a grieving family the justice they’re hoping for.
