Six children ranging 2 to 12 years old were taken to the hospital with injuries ranging from minor to critical.
SAN ANTONIO — The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office says six children were involved in a single-vehicle accident on the city’s east side Friday with an 11-year-old girl remaining in critical condition.
Around 1:46 p.m., deputies responded to the 8100 block of Binz-Engleman Road after initially receiving reports of a major crash.
Upon arrival, BCSO says deputies witnessed a heavily damaged single vehicle that seemed to be involved in the crash involving multiple children.
Six children ranging 2 to 12 years old were taken to the hospital with injuries ranging from minor to critical.
The children were:
- 11-year-old girl who is in critical condition.
- 12-year-old girl with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
- 12-year-old girl with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
- 2-year-old boy with non-life-threatening injuries.
- 7-year-old boy with non-life-threatening injuries.
- 4-year-old boy with non-life-threatening injuries. He has been treated and taken back to his family.
Police say the driver of the vehicle was 31-year-old Brittany Winston. She was allegedly speeding eastbound before leaving the roadway, hitting a pole broadside. It was determined she was speeding over 20 mph in a 45-mph zone. Police say nobody was wearing a seatbelt.
Police say Winston was showing signs of intoxication and medical staff confirmed she was over the legal limit and tested positive for controlled substance.
She was charged with two counts of intoxicated assault, six counts of injury to a child and six counts of aggravated assault.
CPS has been notified and are assisting the situation.
