BCSO asking for help identifying suspect in fatal hit and run

The sheriff’s office says the victim pushed his young son out of the way just before he was struck by a driver in a black pickup truck.

SAN ANTONIO — The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help identifying a suspect who hit and killed a man back in early June on the far west side of town.

Raul Pena was walking with his young son on June 3 when he was hit by a driver in a black pickup truck on Dove Canyon access road at Loop 1604. Officials say Pena moved his son out of the way, or he would have been hit by the truck.

Deputies believe it was a dark Toyota Tacoma that struck the dad.

BCSO says the truck will have specific damage markers indicating it was involved in the fatal hit and run crash. They believe the hood will have wrinkle damage, and the plastic on the passenger side of the grill will be damaged or missing. Also the letters “t” and “o” from “Toyota” on the grill will be missing, leaving the letters “y-o-t-a.”

Deputies say security camera video shows the vehicle turning onto Marbach Road and then Pue Road.

Deputies are asking anyone in the Falcon Wolf, Big Wolf Creek, Pue Road, Sunset Place, or Lynwood Village gated community areas to be on the look out for the truck.

If you have any information regarding this suspect or have seen this vehicle, please contact the BCSO at (210) 335-6000. You can also email bcsotips@bexar.org. Remember, you can remain anonymous.
