BCSO busts human smuggling operation, discovers eight people stashed inside a home on southwest side, officials say

Sheriff Salazar said the victims showed signs of being mistreated. The youngest is around 2 years old.

SAN ANTONIO — Bexar County authorities busted a human smuggling operation on the southwest side Thursday evening after someone called in a tip to law enforcement.

Deputies were able to execute two traffic stops based on the tip which lead them to a house on South Zarzamora and West Southcross, Sheriff Javier Salazar said.

He said about eight victims were found in the home in an apparent case of human smuggling. A couple of the victims told deputies they had sustained injuries during their stay, and Salazar said the victims did show signs of being mistreated.

The youngest victim is around 2 years old.

Salazar mentioned the home was in bad condition, was covered in trash and discarded food. Three suspects have been arrested, but he didn’t specify what charges they might be facing.

Authorities say the case will be lead by the Organized Crime Unit.

This is a developing story.
