BCSO: Deputy arrested after going on Whataburger run for inmate

After jail administrators were informed of the situation, the deputy was questioned about the allegation and confirmed he did purchase the food, officials say.

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — A Bexar County Deputy has been arrested after the sheriff’s office says he accepted money from an inmate’s family to purchase food from Whataburger for both himself and the inmate.

On Friday morning, authorities said Miguel Angel Rodriguez, 27, admitted to accepting a Cash App payment from an inmate’s relative so he could bring him back a meal.

After jail administrators were informed of the situation, Rodriguez was questioned about the allegation and confirmed that he did indeed purchase the food, brought it into the jail and delivered it to the inmate, officials say.

Rodriguez, who was hired in September 2024 and assigned to the Adult Detention Center, was still on his probationary period, which lasts one year following graduation from the academy.

As a result, he was immediately terminated.

Rodriguez was arrested and faces a charge of contraband in a correctional facility on a $2,000 bond.
