Authorities say Tyrill Antonio Benjamin is accused of hitting a 69-year-old woman with his vehicle and leaving the scene.
BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — A man was arrested in connection with a hit-and-run accident that happened back in December, Bexar County officials said.
Tyrill Antonio Benjamin was charged with collision involving serious bodily injury.
Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said the accident took place on Dec. 21 on O’Connor Road and Misty Ridge Drive.
Salazar said a 69-year-old woman was walking to work when she was struck by a vehicle believed to be driven by Benjamin. Witnesses told deputies Benjamin initially stopped and then quickly left the scene.
According to Salazar, multiple witnesses gave a description of the fleeing vehicle. Deputies were then able to track down Benjamin’s car by using a database of similar vehicles.
Salazar said Benjamin was arrested on a warrant for a different charge and when questioned Benjamin told deputies he took off after the crash because he thought he had hit a dog.
Bexar County officials feel strongly that Benjamin knew he had hit a person.
According to Salazar, the woman sustained multiple injuries including a broken pelvis, several broken bones, severe facial injuries, and missing teeth. Salazar also added that the woman could possibly lose an eye as a result of the crash.
The woman was apparently on her way to work at a local elementary school when she was struck.
Salazar praised his investigators along with traffic homicide for the arrest of Benjamin.
