BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — A man was arrested in connection to a crash that led to a pregnant mother’s miscarriage last Thursday, according to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Javier Salazar said 30-year-old Alexander Diaz Mendoza was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon that stems from a crash that happened February 19 around 9:30p.m., on Binz Engleman and Woodlake Parkway.
According to BCSO, Mendoza ignored a red light and crashed into another vehicle with a pregnant driver. As a result of the women’s injuries, she went into premature labor and ended up miscarrying the baby.
BCSO applied for an arrest warrant and picked Mendoza up from a nearby military base and was placed in custody. Authorities clarified that he is a civilian employee at the base.
Salazar said the man’s current charges are based on the mother’s injuries and they are waiting on toxicology reports. If it is determined that Mendoza was intoxicated at the time of the crash he could face additional charges of intoxication manslaughter for the baby.
Mendoza’s bond information was not provided.
