SAN ANTONIO — A breathtaking new mural was unveiled Wednesday at Hemisfair in downtown San Antonio in partnership with Centro San Antonio.
The mural is from artist Chris Fonseca and features a Trompe-l’œil aesthetic, giving it a 3-D look on a 2-D surface. It is located just outside the Magik Theatre and Yanaguana Garden.
It is part of the Art Everywhere Project and gives homage to the 1968 World’s Fair that took place here in San Antonio and was the reason the Tower of the Americas was built.
“It really is indicative of what we stand for in San Antonio, which is this confluence of cultures, this melting pot, races and authenticity. And what that means,” Trish DeBerry, President and CEO of Centro San Antonio, said.
Fonseco moved to San Antonio three years ago and wanted his work to embrace others the way the city embraced him.
“There’s a lot of people they feel like they’re apart from this community. And that’s sad because this is beautiful and it has great people in it,” Fonseco said,
