Beaver found shot in January is making recovery at Raven Ridge Wildlife Center

The beaver will not be able to return to the wild, but will live in a sanctuary with everything he needs to survive.

LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. — A beaver that was found shot with 14 bb-sized pellets in its head in January has made a miraculous recovery while in the hands of the Raven Ridge Wildlife Center.

The beaver was found near the Susquehanna River in Marietta, Lancaster County on Jan. 24. Despite not finding the individual who shot the beaver, the beaver has been surrounded by support and love at the wildlife center.

The beaver entered the facility weighing 37 pounds, which is underweight, and was suffering from pneumonia and E. coli. While he is still recovering from the sicknesses, he now weighs over 50 pounds and “looks and feels considerably better.”

The bb-sized pellets lodged in his head did have a long-term effect on the small animal.

“The damage to his sinus and facial area means he will not be able to be released back into the wild. Since beavers depend heavily on their sense of smell and hearing for survival, the loss of an eye further complicates his ability to thrive in nature,” said Raven Ridge Wildlife Center.

The wildlife center has found a safe, reputable sanctuary where he will be able to live out the rest of his days in a nurturing environment.
