‘Been praying for you’ | Mom seeks answers after son’s death as police release new clue

Jon Kross Perez-Levaeh was shot and killed on Feb. 8 at, what police called, an “after hours club.”

SAN ANTONIO — Standing next to a framed photo of her only child, Heavyn Sanchez said her faith is the only thing carrying her as she searches for answers in the killing of her son.

Jon Kross Perez-Levaeh was shot and killed on February 8 at what police called an ‘after-hours club’.

“My strength. He was my lesson. He was my teacher. He was my reason,” Sanchez said.

Nearly 10 days after his death, Sanchez said she saw her son for the first time on Wednesday.

“That wasn’t my baby. That wasn’t my son,” she said.

Police said the shooting happened just before 7 a.m. at an after-hours club off Rigsby Avenue near Roland Road. Investigators believe the 26-year-old was leaving with friends when five suspects followed him, assaulted him and then shot him.

In what she said was their final conversation, Sanchez spoke with her son minutes before he was killed.

“Literally three minutes after I hung up with him, he was killed,” she said.

Sanchez said she does not know why her son was targeted.

“I don’t know what your motive was or why you did it. I don’t know why he did it, because my son wasn’t a troublemaker. He didn’t start trouble. He didn’t go looking for trouble,” she said.

Police recently released photos of two vehicles believed to be connected to the suspects; one car is silver and the other one is blue. Investigators are asking anyone with information to come forward.

“I don’t know who did this. But I have been praying for you, whoever you are,” Sanchez said.

Perez-Levaeh leaves behind a young son and daughter, ages 5 and 6. His mother said she wants him remembered for his kindness.

“If he saw you on the side of the road, he would stop and help you,” she said. “He didn’t deserve this.”

The family plans to hold a plate sale fundraiser Saturday, February 21. It will be at Covington Park located at 2600 Rigsby from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. The family will be selling plates for $12.

Jon is scheduled to be laid to rest Monday.

Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest. Anyone with information is asked to call 210-224-STOP.
