Bexar Co. committee chairman fired for reportedly calling county commissioner ‘derogatory name’

Letters to the County Judge claim it was said during a private conversation with another member of the same committee.

SAN ANTONIO — A Bexar County Committee Chairman has been fired after he reportedly called a county commissioner a derogatory name.

Letters to the County Judge claim it was said during a private conversation with another member of the same committee.

Christopher Forbrich, the former chairman of the small minority and women owned business enterprise board, had a lot to say.

Commissioners voted to remove him from his position on Tuesday after Judge Peter Sakai received multiple complaints about a crude name he allegedly called Commissioner Rebeca Clay-Flores.

Forbrich defended himself, arguing his language in that “private conversation” was a form of protected political speech, and revealed he hired a lawyer over claims he did not receive timely notice of Tuesday’s hearing, which Sakai denied.

Meanwhile, Clay-Flores thanked commissioners for their swift action against Forbrich.

“Well I think there is a learning opportunity here to have a discussion with what protected political speech in the context of a private citizen in a private conversation that may be in the public square I’m not prepared to have that because I have not had due process to prepare,” said Forbrich.

This vote and the leadership of Judge Sakai speaks that this county will not tolerate sexism or verbal abuse. An appointee representing the county, as well as employees, shall conduct themselves professionally.

It’s unclear who will decide on a replacement for Forbrich, and how quickly that will happen.
