SAN ANTONIO — Bexar County Academy Charter School has announced its closure, leaving parents in a scramble before they head back to school.
Superintendent Ron Young made the announcement Wednesday. He wrote in his letter that the school actually closed last week after the board of directors decided to voluntarily surrender the school’s charter to the Texas Education Agency.
Young says the board didn’t see long-term sustainability for the school and couldn’t serve students at the level they deserve. He also says this was a difficult decision to make during back-to-school season and apologized to all families affected.
“We understand the timing of this news so close to the start of the new school year is incredibly disruptive and disappointing,” Young said in a statement.
He emphasized that students have always been at the heart of everything they do and said they’re proud of the learning, growth, and community they’ve built together.
He ended by thanking the school’s families, saying it was an honor to serve each child.
Bexar County Academy Charter School says they’re going to provide additional support to parents in the coming days with school enrollment options and student records.
“Thank you for being a part of the Bexar County Academy family. It has truly been an honor to serve your children,” Young said.
