Bexar County father faces charges after leaving toddler alone to go drink at local bar

BCSO said 23-year-old Damian Flores was arrested on charges of child abandonment, along with an active warrant for robbery.

SAN ANTONIO — A Bexar County father is accused of leaving his 3-year-old child alone to go drink at a bar.

Now, the 23-year-old dad is facing charges.

Deputies say Damian Flores left his 3-year-old child alone inside an apartment in unsafe conditions.

According to their investigation, deputies say that on April 19, the child’s mother left the child with Flores at an apartment at the Westpointe Oaks Apartments on the far west side around 9:30 p.m.

About 45 minutes later, the mother says Flores contacted her, telling her he was leaving their child alone at the apartment.

Deputies say the mother then called a friend, who quickly went to the apartment and found the child abandoned.

Deputies were called and when they arrived, they encountered Flores, who had returned to the apartment—but only after witnesses brought him back. Deputies say he had been found drinking at a bar.

Flores refused to speak with investigators. Deputies say he had gone to a nearby bar called Stout House.

However, witnesses did talk with investigators and said they tracked Flores to the bar and had to physically struggle with him to get him to leave.

Flores was arrested on charges of child abandonment, along with an active warrant for robbery.

Flores remains in the Bexar County Jail.

Deputies say this is a disturbing case and should serve as a reminder that leaving a child is never a harmless mistake—it is an act of pure negligence.
